Spreading the Word
Public Demonstrations: The team has selected over 20 locations along their route where they will utilize local education institutions, industries and media to set up a variety of meetings and demonstrations. Demonstrations will coordinate Biofuels Education Coalition curriculums with the Oil and Water Project demonstrations to further youth orientated education. This will be an effort to bring alternative fuels awareness to some of the poorest local communities in the world who are often the hardest hit by traditional fuel consumption. This will serve three fold: educating about the benefits of biofuels, ensuring travel assistance and safety when needed and instilling a sense of partnership with communities located along the project route. These presentations will make use of local grass-roots initiatives already advocating for alternative fuels and help bring these projects to light by providing insight into specific examples of negative environmental and economical impacts of fuel consumption locally to encourage action.
Youth Seminars: Traveling and peripheral team members will conduct youth workshops focusing on finding alternative solutions to issues that many young people face. They will talk about breaking free from the binds of traditional society. The Oil and Water project will show by example that anything can be achieved through intrinsic motivation. Students will join in kayak clinics and demonstrations. The team will give advice on how to maintain a healthy physical and mental lifestyle in an age where kids are often up against numerous obstacles to attain either.
Web-space interaction: This web-space is designed to raise public awareness through the involvement of youth. It will be continuously updated and maintained throughout the project, where youth can follow the progress of the project, ask questions of the team and enter a series of small competitions. Young people will have the opportunity to suggest and design ways to alter the fuel consumption in their own communities. This is a way to get kids excited about the issue and consequently begin to change the mindset of their generation.
